For Tim's birthday, we went to see Casino Royale, the new James Bond movie. I am not usually a fan of action movies in general or Bond movies in particular, but this one was pretty good. And it inspired us to play poker (with much smaller stakes). We've been playing with quarters, dimes, and nickels. I tried to include pennies in the venture, but Tim shot that down. At first, I was losing quite a bit--I was down about $4. But I have won all but 10 cents back now. Hooray.

I'm finally feeling a little more relaxed after leading a youth retreat and preaching in the same weekend.

This week, I had to lead a Board planning retreat, which felt a little stressful. But, it went really well. Now, I just need to get the newsletter out asap (about a month behind). It has been a little busy and when you only have 2 staff people in the office, it gets a little crazy.

I've started playing soccer again and it's going pretty well. I'm still sore afterward, but it's definitely better than the first week back. I've played 3 games and it gets less painful every time. Acutally, the game isn't really painful. It's after the game for 2-3 days that hurts. But, I'm back playing faster than I thought I would be. They told me a year for a full recovery--and that is probably right. But, at the time I thought that meant I wouldn't be playing soccer until February.

Halloween is certainly boring at our house. Our house is set back from the road, so very few people venture back here to get candy. And Tim's beloved glow in the dark pumpkin did not make it out of the basement this year. We are old. :(

Last Sunday's sex ed session was pretty fun. The lesson focused on anatomy. And one of the activities involves dividing the groups into boys and girls. Each team gets a bag of assorted craft supplies (balloons, pipe cleaners, etc) and a set of gender-specific labels for their anatomy. Then, they have to construct a 3-dementional reproductive system. It is great fun to watch them argue about where the vas deferens or the fallopian tubes go. But, they really learn it better by having to put it together and then present it to the whole group.

I was working with the girls group and they asked me what a clitoris was. So, when I told them, they used the bottom of a paper cup and drew a smiley face on it--and named it "the happy spot." Yeah girls.

Busy Busy Busy. We had a big training last weekend for people who want to teach sexuality education in their congregations. 50 people attended, which was great. :) It was a huge amount of work to coordinate, since there were 3 different classes and 2 trainers for each class. The trainers needed supplies and to be picked up from the airport, etc. It feels good to be done with it.

We are also hiring a new executive director. But the search committee did not really feel that any of the people they interviewed were right for the job. So, they asked me to come and interview. And then they offered me the position--even though I told them I wasn't sure I wanted it. I like the program work that I am currently doing and I didn't want to completely give that up in order to do more administrative and fundraising work. So, I am taking the weekend to think it over.

Plus, we have 2 more big trainings next week to get ready for. So, I've been a little overwhelmed. And I still have another job. :)

Worship was fun today. We had kids involved in a variety of parts of worship--doing readings and doing a skit with adults about the Gospel lesson. I love using drama in worship--and the congregation seems to love it too. There's just something about seeing the story in action that helps you understand in a whole different way. Plus, it's a lot more fun.

Between worship and confirmation class today, I went to the Y and went running. I've advanced enough in my physical therapy to run now. I started out the 1st 2 weeks running 1 minute, walking 4 minutes for a total of 15 minutes. Now, I am running 2 minutes and walking 3 minutes for a total of 15 minutes. Eventually, I will increase to running 30 minutes in a row, but that will be a few months. I am trying to build back up toward playing soccer :) So far, it is going pretty well. The running jars my back a little bit, but I'm not having a lot of pain afterward--just some tightness. So, I am hopeful that I will play soccer during the fall session :)

Well, the church year has started off pretty well. After almost 3 years as a youth minister, I feel like I am finally into the rhythm of the job. I feel more confident about my ability to do the job and so I can be more creative with things.

Today I went to a housewarming party for my friend, Jenn, who I went to school with in Hawai'i. 2 of her sisters live here, and her husband just got a job here, so they moved in about a month ago. Funny small world situation. It was so great to see her and I really like her sisters too :)

I am doing the Headwaters Foundation walk for justice tomorrow. The foundation is a smaller social justice-focused foundation in Minnesota and they organize a walk for all the organizations they have ever funded to participate. We each raise money for our own organization. It is really nice because as a small organization, we don't have the resources to organize big events ourselves. They take care of the logistics--even setting up individual websites for us to send emails from. And we walk. :) I reached my goal of raising $500! Yeah!

Tim is up north this weekend--hunting and fishing with Kodi and some boys from work. So, Kona and I are having a girls weekend :)I'm going to take her for a little walk soon. The old girl gets tired more easily now--and Kona does too. Haha.

2 weekends ago, Tim and I went to our neighbor's cabin on Upper Red Lake. The lake is like 17 miles across. We actually caught a few fish, which is unusual for us. But the ones that made it into the boat weren't worth keeping. But we had a great time roasting marshmallows over a campfire and playing cards at night. We hadn't had a vacation all summer, so it was time, even if only for 3 days.

Last weekend, I went on a teambuilding retreat with the Confirmation group. It was our first get-together of the year. Those silly teambuilding games they do seem lame, but they work like magic. We have kids from 4 churches who didn't know each other before this weekend and now they are doing really well as a group. We didn't do a teambuilding retreat at the beginning of last year, and it wasn't as good of a year. I think this upcoming year will be much better. But, I am exhausted. I took today off and I am still exhausted. :) But I should be back to normal soon.

This weekend, we are going to MT to see my parents, and we are flying! This will be the first time Tim & I have ever been on an airplane together. Hooray! Tim's friend from work will watch the dogs. He has a bulldog puppy, so Kodi will have a blast.
